Much in the same way as summerhouses and log cabins, static caravans are more prone to extreme temperature fluctuation – extreme cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
Whilst the majority of new static caravans are built with insulated rooves to help regulate the temperatures, if exposed to prolonged periods of sunlight, static caravans can become unbearably hot. There are, however, a number of tips to help to try and maintain your static caravan cool on warm days.
Air Flow
A good flow of air can help to cool the caravan down considerably, this can be achieved by opening all the windows and allowing the air to flow freely – if your static caravan has a skylight, this should also be kept open. It can also be helpful to use a fan to get the air to circulate.
Keep It Cool During The Day
During the day it is a good idea to keep blinds and curtains drawn in order to prevent the sunlight and heat from entering. It can also help to prevent any damage associated with fading to the furniture.
Fans and Air Conditioning
Most UK residences do not need an air conditioning unit, however, if your static caravan is set in a particularly sunny location and frequently becomes too hot to sleep in, then it may be worth investing in an air conditioning unit. There are many different types available on the market, including portable units. Alternatively, fans can be used to circulate refreshing cool air from outside.
Cook Outdoors
Using the oven or the hob can generate a significant amount of heat – this additional heat can become particularly uncomfortable on warmer days. A hot summer day also provides the ideal opportunity to get the BBQ out and enjoy grilled meats, cheeses and vegetables with breads and salads. It really is the perfect time to get creative with a BBQ menu!
Outdoor Shade
If there is any natural shade on your pitch, this can be set up during the day with tables and chairs. If there is no natural shade, then try to create some with a temporary gazebo or another arrangement.
Strip Back Heavy Soft Furnishings
Items such as thick and heavy curtains, bulky duvets and so forth can retain even more heat. To avoid overheating, try swapping these items for thinner drapes made from natural fibres or for wooden blinds.
Lights and Appliances
Check the type of light bulbs fitted in your static caravan, LED light bulbs produce less heat and are more economical to run. It is also important to ensure that all appliances are kept switched off so that heat does not escape.
