Owning a static caravan offers freedom, the luxury of a second home that can be enjoyed for many years, at a more affordable price. Over time however, static caravans become subject to wear and tear and begin to depreciate in value; for many, an upgrade is a logical step forward to continue a good investment and to improve its facilities.
When it comes to upgrading a static caravan, there are a number of possible reasons that typically prompt owners to make the decision – these include the following:
Lack Of Space
This is one of the most common reasons cited when considering an upgrade – many owners purchase their first static caravan before having children. Lack of space becomes a problem for growing families with children and pets. Newer and more modern static caravans often offer open plan living and more space, better suited and more fit for purpose.
Outdated Features
Older static caravans often have dated features and the interior design scheme may no longer be aesthetically pleasing and require updating. It is often more cost effective overall to upgrade the whole caravan, rather than its individual features.
Breach of Park Rules
Some static caravan parks set an age limit on the static caravans in the park, this is typically around 20 years; when the limit is reached, the owners will be forced to either remove the caravan and find another park, or to upgrade the model.
Expensive To Run
On a more practical note, a modern static caravan is generally more economical to run, features such as double glazing are standard, and the walls and roof offer a higher standard of insulation, retaining heat better on cooler days and keeping the caravan cooler on hotter days. Interior features such as the fridge and any other fixtures, are more energy efficient.
Wear & Tear
As with anything, the older the static caravan is the more worn it will become. General wear and tear will weaken the overall structure, putting a greater strain on the joints and also making leaks and associated dampness more likely.
Relocation
For some static caravan owners, it is the park rather than the caravan itself that is the reason for an upgrade and relocation. It may be due to the geographical location, the park’s facilities, or simply for a change of scenery.
More Home Comforts
The more modern a static caravan is, the more likely it is that a number of desirable features come as standard and there is the added benefit of a brand-new, modern interior.
